Christian Faith and Issues meets every Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Social Hall. Topics run for a month and vary throughout the year. Topics are listed in the monthly newsletter, and the Sunday bulletin.
Winter/Spring 2008 Adult Bible Study:
God With Us: The Gospel of Matthew is the Winter/Spring adult Bible study. Matthew and the new Christian community saw themselves as part of Judaism, not separate from it. This community was the most “Jewish” among the gospel communities. A distinguishing feature of the Gospel of Matthew is its use of “church,” which means “an assembly of ones who are called out” and it conveys nothing of the static conception of the word “church” held by many today. The Church is so important to Matthew that two full chapters are devoted to teachings of Jesus that guide the community of faith in its life and service. According to Matthew, the Church is an earthly manifestation of the kingdom of God, and it is comprised of Jesus’ followers who have been called to live righteously in the world and to serve in the manner of Christ with deep humility and unfathomable forgiveness. In Jesus, there is a new community at work for the blessing of the world. What is it that binds us together? Jesus; God with Us. Come and examine this with us on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. in the Herron Lounge and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in Room 209. Monday Morning Bible Study at Hershey's Mill:
This study has stopped meeting for the summer and will resume in the Fall.
Men's Bible Studies:
The Men's Ministry sponsors a number of Bible and Spiritual study groups on Tuesday evenings and Friday mornings. For more information, click here.
Women’s Bible Studies:
Plan on joining us for one of the Women’s Bible studies this year. They are:
Presbyterian Women Circles: As part of the PW program there is a Bible study in each monthly circle meetings. A Spiritual Gifts course and a Women’s Spiritual Directions course are offered periodically.
Presbyterian Men's Ministry Offerings: Men’s Ministry offers an intensive Basic Training course each year as well as a variety of brief opportunities during the year. Contact the Men’s Ministry for more details.
Three Bible Reading Options
The Bible in Two Years allows the opportunity to do the Year of the Bible reading in two years instead of only one. This provides a slower pace with more introductory material to enhance your devotional reading. The original The Year of the Bible is available for those who woudl like to read through the Bible in one year. Also offered is Bible Book of the Month, which is less reading each day and covers a book or group of books in a month. See the wall rack in Fellowship Hall to secure a copy of the program you would like to follow this year.
