The Christian Education program at First Church is varied and exciting, with two times for learning on Sunday mornings, several adult classes, and an anticipation of your participation for your own Christian growth. The Christian education goal is to present a lifelong ministry that is Biblically based, educationally sound, and spiritually stimulating to all who participate.
Church School Learning Goals
A goal of the Christian Education Committee since 1994 has been to have each Church
School class, four year olds and up, involved in learning basic material from the Bible and worship. Teachers are encouraged to work with their classes throughout the year to help them learn age-level appropriate material.
Church School – Sundays 9 a.m., All Ages
The Crib/Toddler Room is open from 9 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
Church School - Sundays 10:30 a.m., Ages 3 - Grade 2
Crib through Grade 2: The Crib/Toddler Room is open from 9 - 11:45 a.m. Classes for three-year-olds through grade 3 use Faith Alive Curriculum.
Christian Faith and Issues is an adult class which meets in the Social Hall. Topics run for three to six weeks and vary throughout the year. Topics are listed in the monthly newsletter, and the Sunday bulletin and are socially and Biblically geared.
An adult Bible Study is also available each week at 9:00 in the Herron Lounge. We will begin in September with a study of the book of Psalms.
Nursery Beepers: Beepers are available in the Nursery to assist parents and staff with the care of our children. Anyone leaving a child in the care of the nursery staff MUST take a beeper for the time their child is in the nursery. This provides the nursery staff with the ability to contact a parent should they be needed in the nursery at any time. Your cooperation will help us ensure that everyone has a positive experience while in the nursery.
Confirmation/Commissioning Class is an opportunity for youth, grades eight through twelve, to explore their faith and understand the meaning of church membership. The class begins in September and continues until confirmation in June. Experienced teachers plus the pastors lead the class. The class meets each Sunday from 9:00 - 10:15 a.m. in Rm 209.
Middle and High School youth participate in Sunday morning learning as well at 9:00. Middle Schoolers can be found in Rm. 210 and High Schoolers in Rm. 216.
Summer Joy Worship is held on Sundays, June through the first Sunday in September, during the 9 am worship service. Children four years old through grade three participate in worship through the Children’s Chat and then leave for their classes.
