Brief History of Troop 43
Troop 43 was originally chartered in 1921 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania and was sponsored by Lukens Steel Corporation. For reasons unknown, the originally chartered Troop ceased as an organization and Troop 43 remained moribund until 1931, when in June of that year a group of men interested in promoting scouting activities centered at the First Presbyterian Church of West Chester, received a Re-Charter from the Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America. The Troop has met continuously since that charter in 1931 in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church and continues to be an active organization with regular camping trips, hikes and service projects. Since 1931, 69 Scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Troop 43 meets every week on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Troop is dedicated to the Boy Scout principles which include a duty to God and Country, service to others, and personal development. Any boy in grades 6 and higher is welcome to join. Adults are also welcome to join the Troop as an adult leader, committee member or merit badge counselor.
