Column Classics Announces its Thirteenth Season, 2009-2010
This year begins the international celebration of the music of composer Samuel Barber, born in West Chester on March 9, 1910. Barber’s parents were long-time members of First Presbyterian Church. He learned to play the organ here, his memorial service was held in our Sanctuary on January 26, 1981, and he is buried at Oaklands Cemetery. Our church is a focal point for many of the musical celebrations taking place this year; check our web-site regularly for updates on regional and international events recognizing this uniquely American composer.
