The Confirmation/Commissioning Class is an opportunity for youth, grades eight through twelve, to explore their faith and understand the meaning of church membership. The class begins in September and continues until confirmation in June. Experienced teachers, plus the pastors, lead the class.
The class meets each Sunday from 10:15 - 11:30 a.m. in the Social Hall.
The 2007-08 Confirmation Class has met since September, received by the Session into membership in May and Confirmation Sunday was June 1. The class of 31 participated in two retreats, a Mission Day, learned about the Presbyterian Church, has an overview of the message of the Bible, the life of Jesus and the history of the Christian Church. They learned about First Church through a “Month in the Life of the Church” project where each Confirmand selected a particular ministry of the church to learn more about. Mentors working with the Confirmands are a very important part of the program and the growth of the Confirmands. Each Confirmand had a personal interview with one of the pastors. The teaching team, giving their time, talent and love, included: Bob Barcus, Kathy Bird, Rick Burke, Josh Landis, Sherry Nugent and Steve and Sue Soulas, as well as the other pastors and members of the church boards.
