First Presbyterian Church has 60 Deacons, each of whom are responsible for a parish of approximately 20 families. The Deacons reach out to these households in time of need, illness, death in the family, hospitalization, or at times of joy. The Deacons assist the pastors by alerting them of situations where a pastoral visit would be helpful. They also accompany the pastors when home communion is administered to those unable to attend worship. The Deacons are an essential caring arm of the church.
If you're a member of First Pres and you're unsure whom your Deacon is, just call Elizabeth Hess (610-696-0554).
The Deacons assist the congregation by maintaining:
Hospital Closet – which contains medical equipment – hospital beds, walkers, canes, crutches, etc.—available to be used as long as needed.
Food Closet – where food supplies are collected and distributed to agencies in West Chester.
Dinners by Deacons – which are frozen meals available for distribution to members in times of hospitalization or illness.
Deacon Work Days – when Deacons do odd jobs or clean-up chores for members on a Saturday twice a year.
Home Communion – Twice a year, the Pastors and Deacons take communion to those who are unable to attend worship. This is a joyful way to reach out to those who are long-time members of the church, many of whom worship with us via our radio broadcasts.
For more information about the Deacons, please telephone Rev. Elisabeth Hartwell (610-696-0554).
