The duties of an ushering team member:

• We have separate ushering teams for the 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM services.
• Usually an ushering team is asked to serve about twice per year.
• Ushers are asked to arrive at the church approximately 20 to 25 minutes before the service.
• An ushering team for one service consists of a head usher, who is experienced in the ushering process, and four ushers. 
• Duties of an usher include greeting churchgoers as they arrive for the service, distributing church programs, helping churchgoers find a seat if the church is crowded, and collecting the offering.  When the offering is taken, usually four ushers will collect the offering in the main sanctuary and the fifth usher will collect the offering from the balcony and the narthex.  Each usher collecting the offering is asked to count the people from whom they are collecting the offering.  We have devised a simple method to easily accomplish this task.
• After the offering is taken, the head usher and one or two ushers should remain in the narthex at the rear of the sanctuary for the remainder of the service.
• After the benediction and choral response concludes the service, the ushers should go through each pew to collect programs left behind.  These programs are returned to the narthex for use at the next service or recycling.  This usually takes less than five minutes to accomplish.
• The head ushers are eminently qualified to instruct any new ushers in the simple responsibilities of being an usher.
