For new church officers in 2021
The Office of Elder carries with it responsibility for oversight and leadership of the whole life of the congregation. As part of the congregation’s leadership board, or session, elders share in discerning God’s Spirit, and guiding and governing God’s people. Elders should be persons of wisdom and maturity of faith, having demonstrated skills in leadership, compassion of spirit, and working well as part of a team.
The Office of Deacon is one of sympathy, witness, and service, after the example of Jesus Christ. Deacons work to serve those in need, whether ill or lonely or in any manner of distress. Deacons visit the sick and shut-in, oversee the church’s blood drive and lay home visitation, bring the Lord’s Supper to our homebound members, and serve coffee between Sunday worship services. A Deacon should be mature, kindly, gifted with common sense, and showing loyalty to Christ and compassion for others.
The Office of Trustee carries with it responsibility for managing the facilities and finances of First Pres, so that our resources may be put to effective use for the ministries to which God has called us in this place. A Trustee should be mature in faith, respected by peers, willing to be a team player, and have some competence in matters of finance and/or facilities.
