"ASSOCIATE PASTOR FOR CALLING AND CONNECTING" - WHAT!?
In the letter sent to the congregation in April, the session explained that as part of the new staffing structure they adopted, my title is changing from Associate Pastor for Christian Education & Outreach to Associate Pastor for Calling & Connecting.
But what does that mean? It means that the primary focus of my work has shifted away from intentional faith development among the members of First Pres (which will now be led by Sara Pantazes as the Christian Education Director), and toward facilitating contacts between First Pres and members of the community AND facilitating connections between First Pres members and ministries of the congregation. Here’s how it’s summed up in my new Position Description:
“By example and guidance, the Associate Pastor for Calling & Connecting cultivates the congregation’s practices of missional hospitality in the way of Christ, through building relationships with neighbors in the greater West Chester community, inviting neighbors into connection with Christ through the First Pres fellowship, and facilitating active involvement in the life and ministries of the congregation.”
Think of it this way: my task is now to:
(1) help First Pres reach out to folks in our community through invitation and service (the “Calling” part of my work)
(2) help First Pres folks, new and “veterans,” get involved in our ongoing activities and ministries (the “Connecting” part).
I will also continue sharing pastoral care duties with Caroline and Greg.
I hope this helps to clarify things a bit, but feel free to contact me if you have questions (or ideas for how we can carry out this work together).
