As people who follow Jesus, we are asked to care for one another as a mark of our faith.

First Pres seeks to follow Christ's instructions in Matthew 25 by providing support to Chester Co residents experiencing financial struggles around housing, utilities, and transportation. We also work with organizations that are making an impact on housing insecurity in our community. First Pres members are asked to explore how we can support those affected by housing insecurity through support, advocacy, and building strong ties within our community.

Our Matthew 25 Initiative has a focus of meeting the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, hunger, and partnering with community organizations that support these individuals. Through Matthew 25, First Pres serves anyone in need in Chester County, and is an additional resource to local community partners who are unable to fund and support current needs. We currently receive between 20-40 requests for assistance per week.

We are aiming to serve any person(s) in West Chester, or surrounding areas, who may be affected by housing or food insecurity. Most people who need assistance are those who are working as health care aides, bus drivers, and other hourly-wage earners. Some are veterans, most have health challenges or care for someone who does.

The Matthew 25 initiative at First Presbyterian works closely with our local mission partners. We make connections with these groups and assist when needed in helping their clients obtain or remain in safe housing.

  1. Learn more about housing insecurity in Chester County and other American cities with rapidly rising housing costs.
  2. Volunteer time to this initiative by participating in opportunities at First Pres, like our Wednesday Lunches, and with our mission partners – Friends Association, Act Now, Salvation Army, and Safe Harbor.

Each spring during the season of Lent we run our Matthew 25 campaign with the goal of raising $25,000 to support our efforts, but you can give anytime. Whether you're a member of First Pres or simply someone who wants to make an impact in the the lives of those in West Chester, 100% of every dollar that you give goes directly to the needs of our community.
